Friends and Family Support Group

The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance offers a support group for friends and family members of adolescents with depression or bipolar disorder.

WHEN:
The group meets on the first Thursday of each month from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

WHERE:
UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Building D, Room D1.104.

WHAT:
The group meets in room D1.502 for announcements, then moves to D1.104. There is also a support group for adolescents that meets at the same time.

Parents of Children and Adolescents Support Group

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)—Dallas now offers this support group for parents of children or adolescents with a mental illness.

WHEN:
The group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

WHERE:
The Warren Center, 320 Custer Road, Richardson, Texas 75080

Adolescent Support Group

The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance now offers an adolescent support group that focuses on issues unique to teens and provides an environment where they can feel understood and supported.

WHEN:
The group meets on the first Thursday of each month from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

WHERE:
UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Building D, Room D1.106.

WHAT:
The group meets in room D1.502 for announcements, then moves to D1.106. There is also a support group for friends and family members that meets at the same time.

WHO:
The group is facilitated by Annie Walley, LCSW, and Jennifer Hughes. Ms. Walley is the coordinator of the pediatric psychiatry research program for Children's Medical Center Dallas. She has a Masters of Social Work from the University of California, Berkeley, with an emphasis in clinical practice with children and families.

Jennifer Hughes is a doctoral student in clinical psychology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Prior to attending graduate school, she served as a study coordinator on the NIMH-sponsored Treatment of Adolescent Suicide Attempt Study (TASA), a treatment study for depressed adolescents.
